A tragic landslide at the garbage landfill of Leuwigajah (Bandung, West Java, Indonesia) claimed the lives of 143 residents on a night in 2005 after preceding days of heavy rainstorms. Plans to reopen the facility since 2007 face strong objections from residents of the small village, who remained traumatized by the accident. The village that was affected by the landslide had since moved and renamed “Kampong Bahru”, which means “the new village”. A recent visit to the site was met with a few residents who shared their experiences of life before the landslide and how they adapt to the changes after.
